LeDung Tran, Teacher, Newcomer Program and Việt club advisor at McDaniel High School
VCAA would like to extend our appreciation to Ms. LeDung Tran, a Teacher at McDaniel High School. She took the time to plan a field trip with her students to visit us. We were honored to provide a private tour of a cultural art exhibit and the temple. where a UNESCO-recognized practice related to the Viet beliefs in the Mother Goddesses of Three Realms occurs.
Below is feedback from student surveys when asked, "What was the most valuable part of the event for you?"
"Seeing the artwork and not knowing what they're showing and then understanding the meaning."
"Learning about someone's journey through their experience (stories)."
"Learning about the contributions and innovations of the Vietnamese people."
"Learning more about the Vietnamese culture through the eyes of a refugee."
"During our brief visit to the Jeffrey Allen gallery, we were incredibly impressed. Vietnamese culture was wonderfully presented with the paintings of late artist Le Quang Vinh, narrated by his daughter, Vân Le, and the co-founder of VCAA, Allen Luong.
From Trống Đồng to Sáo trúc and other stories through the memory of an immigrant, the paintings presented the love and pride for the Vietnamese people, its resilience, and the community spirit.
Particularly noteworthy was the construction and preservation of the Mẫu Nghi Thiên Hạ Temple, a symbol of Vietnamese religious belief for thousands of years.
It is truly a rich, treasure collection of Vietnamese cultural heritage.
I would recommend other teachers/students to visit the gallery."
